Step 1: Heat up your pan. It’s best to use a non-stick or cast iron skillet. Add your olive oil. and let it melt over medium heat.
Step 2: Add your sliced onions to the pan, making sure they are evenly spread out. Sprinkle some salt and pepper to taste. Lower the heat to low or medium-low, and let the onions cook.
Step 3: Stir the onions occasionally. It’s important not to rush the process, as caramelizing onions takes time. Depending on the quantity and type of onion used, it can take anywhere from 20-40 minutes to achieve that perfect caramel color.
Step 4: As the onions cook, they will start to release their natural sugars and become soft and tender. Continue stirring occasionally to prevent them from sticking to the pan. Once they turn golden brown, they are ready!
Step 5: Take the caramelized onions off the heat and let them cool. You can serve them immediately or store them in an airtight container in the fridge for later use.
